The regeneration of Gascoigne Estate, by Be First, is an ambitious project. The Estate is immediately south of Barking town centre.
Turkington Martin has been involved in the design, technical development and overseeing of the on-site works for two significant parks, the public realm infrastructure and a number of residential courtyards across phases 2 and 3a. A series of connected green streets, squares and parks provides an accessible and pedestrian friendly sequence of amenity open space for the local community and wider Barking neighbourhood. They are designed to support resident’s health and well-being, encourage exercise and offer everyone safe and easy access to nature.
Gascoigne Park, the larger of the open spaces, is at the heart of the neighbourhood and designed to support public life, offering a wide variety of activities and places to dwell that foster social and community engagement. The design was developed with the local community through extensive engagement resulting in an inclusive, multi-generational place that meets a range of needs and becomes a successful and cherished part of the new Gascoigne Estate.
